Re-ending of High Pressure Hoses Used in Water Jetting Applications above 350bar W.P   

Background:     As Guidance Note: 101 – prior to revision.

Latest Guidance:

There are several British standards (BS ENS) which relate to high pressure hose assemblies. The 2015 WJA Code of Practice refers to two standards.  This guidance note ONLY refers to BS EN 1829-2 and ONLY deals with water jetting hose assemblies working above 350bar, it is in addition to our previous Guidance Note: 101.  It also gives contractors best industry practice advice on hose care and maintenance to help contractors conform to PUWER Regulation 5 & 12 as previously stated in Guidance Note: 101.

  • Hose Assemblies shall be inspected by the team leader on a daily basis in line with the Code of Practice.   (Short training or tool box talks are recommended to demonstrate level of competency).
  • Hose Assemblies shall be examined / inspected at least three times a year by a suitably qualified person and records shall be kept in line with PUWER Regulations.
  • Hose Assemblies shall be pressure tested to a minimum 1.5 times the maximum working pressure by a suitably qualified person every 12 months and records shall be kept.
  • Hose Assemblies shall be fitted with suitable restraining devices.

  • Single Wire Rope restrainers are available, however some are prone to moving from the connector during use. If using these it is recommended that this is highlighted and reflected in the Risk Assessment.

  • If Hose Assemblies are covered with a protective outer sleeve this shall be fully inspected. If there is any damage to this cover then a section of at least 150mm either side of the damage must be removed to enable close visual examination of the hose. Records of this shall be kept.
  • If Hose Assemblies are damaged and withdrawn from service in line with the Code of Practice and BS EN 1829-2, they shall be either destroyed or returned to the manufacturer and their recommendations shall be strictly adhered to.
