All action adventure – it must be the WJA Fun Day!
As they saying goes, all work is not good for us. Which is why the WJA organised an all action day of fun before holding its annual general meeting.
Representatives of WJA members were invited to throw axes, drive like banshees and shoot everything in sight (on the mini range) during the day of fun activities.
Fun team competition
The WJA Fun Day was held on Thursday June 22nd, the day before the AGM at Celtic Manor Resort, near Newport, South Wales.
Organised by a professional events team (thankfully), there was something for everyone during the fun day, including adrenaline junkies and those with a competitive edge.
Participants were divided into colour-coded teams and each took turns at completing the activities.
Amazing axe throw
There was a mini Honda go-kart time trial around a very bouncy grass circuit.
Then on to the axe throwing – with axes sent whirring to targets – as the teams released their inner Viking.
Steve Tooey, from WJA member Mourik UK, achieved the amazing moment of the day by throwing one axe, then a second, which embedded itself into the first.
Even the instructors were impressed!
Target shooting with air rifles and laser-guided skeet shooting allowed the sharp shooters to show their skills.
After a day of serious fun, under a (mostly) sunny and hot sky, the points were totted up and the winning team was announced.
It was Blue Team, which happened to include WJA General Manager Leanne Smith.
Socialising together
She said: “It was a great day of outdoor activity. I think some of us discovered skills we never knew we possessed.
“Which included hurtling across an overgrown field in a go-kart with what felt like the acceleration of an F1 car without losing our lunch!
“It was a great opportunity to bring WJA member representatives together, along with their partners in many cases.
“Everyone had a chance to know each other better in a relaxed environment and have a lot of fun. Oh, and the Blue Team won!”
World class golf
For those who preferred golf, there was a chance to play a round on Celtic Manor Resort’s world-class Montgomery Course.
Later that evening, the WJA hosted meal and activity prize giving on the terrace at the hotel. Then, after the AGM, the next day, the WJA held its gala dinner.
Like-minded people
WJA President John Jones said: “Our AGM is a vital part of our governance procedures and the way we involve members in our decision-making and strategy setting.
“However, there is also a social component to WJA membership. We are like-minded people who work across, or rely on, the same commercial and industrial sectors.
“So, having the chance to meet and enjoy good times together is also important, which is why our annual fun day is always popular.”
See you at the next WJA Fun Day!
