About
ReClaym is a Joint Venture between Imerys Minerals Ltd (75%) and Orascom (25%) which took effect in October 2010.
Imerys Minerals Ltd (“Imerys”) first built and commissioned a refurbishment plant at Blackpool Dryers near Trewoon, St. Austell, Cornwall, UK in 2003. Since then it has been operated to safely treat and dispose of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) arising from plant and equipment, which is a by-product of Imerys’ china clay process. The plant works on a zero emissions to air, water and land.
ReClaym now owns and operates the plant and its assets and has exclusivity with Imerys to treat and dispose of equipment containing NORM present on Imerys sites in Cornwall and Devon. The plant has been renamed the Blackpool ReClaym Plant.
NORM occurs naturally in the granite that forms much of Cornwall and Devon. When china clay is extracted, small particles of radioactive material collect and concentrate in processing equipment and other infrastructure. This material needs to be treated once the pipe work or equipment has been removed.
ReClaym also provides Eco-Bos Developments Ltd with remediation and all NORM treatment services on an exclusive basis on those Imerys landholdings in Cornwall subject to the Eco-Bos redevelopment project. The redevelopment project originating from the Eco-town concept is being taken forward under the Eco-Bos Joint Venture, a second Joint Venture announced in May 2010 between Orascom (75%) and Imerys (25%).
ReClaym has acquired the treatment plant owned by Imerys along with all assets and staff and has a structure that will allow the continued treatment and disposal of NORM in a safe manner from the Imerys sites on behalf of both Imerys and Eco-Bos.
